About the Recipe

A warmly spiced roasted nut mix with pecans, almonds and pistachios - quick to make, satisfying to snack on and easy to keep in a jar all week.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp chilli powder

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ¾ tsp ground cumin

  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper

  • ¾ cup pecans or cashews

  • ¾ cup raw almonds

  • ½ cup raw pistachios

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • ½ tsp coarse salt

Preparation

Step 1


Preheat oven to 160°C.


Step 2


Mix the spices in a small bowl and set aside.


Step 3


Spread the nuts on a large baking sheet and roast for about 8–10 minutes.


Step 4


Remove to a bowl and toss with the olive oil.


Step 5


Add the spices and stir briefly.


Step 6


Return to the baking sheet and roast for another 2–3 minutes.


Step 7


A snack portion is a big tablespoon of spicy nuts.


Mixed nuts provide a broad spectrum of healthy fats, plant protein, vitamin E, magnesium and zinc. Almonds support bone health and blood sugar balance. Pecans are rich in antioxidants. Pistachios are high in potassium and B6. Spices including chilli and cayenne contain capsaicin, which has anti-inflammatory and metabolism-supporting properties.
