About the Recipe

Only 10 minutes to prepare, this recipe makes enough for snacks for all the family - two balls each, not the whole batch! Drizzle with some soft peanut butter if you are feeling particularly hungry.

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cups rolled oats

  • 1¼ cups pitted dates

  • 100g almond butter

  • 1 tsp orange blossom water or almond extract (optional)

  • ½ tsp ground ginger

  • ½ tsp grated nutmeg

  • 3 tbsp hot water

Preparation

Step 1

Put the oats, dates, almond butter, orange blossom water or almond extract (if using), ginger and nutmeg into a blender and blend until smooth and sticking together. Drizzle in the hot water so that the mixture forms a ball.

Step 2

Using a teaspoon, scoop out a teaspoonful of the mixture and roll it into a 3cm ball, pressing firmly so that it sticks together. Repeat until you have used all the mixture.

Step 3

Chill until ready to serve.

Step 4

Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for 1 month. For an indulgent flavour, drizzle some nut butter before serving.

This high-protein ball has the added extra flavours of ginger and nutmeg; both are carminatives for the digestive system and are very soothing. Ginger and nutmeg also have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
