About the Recipe

Zesty orange and almond balls dipped in dark chocolate - a healthier take on the classic Jaffa cake flavour combination, made with just five ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups almonds or almond meal

  • Juice and zest of 1 orange

  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 125g dark chocolate

  • Orange rind, to garnish

Preparation

Step 1


Mix all ingredients except the chocolate in a bowl.


Step 2


Knead with hands until you form a dough.


Step 3


Roll into balls and flatten slightly by patting between both palms.


Step 4


Melt the dark chocolate.


Step 5


Coat the bottoms of each ball with the dark chocolate.


Step 6


Place on a plate covered with baking paper.


Step 7


Allow to set in the fridge.


Step 8


Store in an airtight container in the fridge.


Almonds are rich in protein, healthy fats, vitamin E, calcium and magnesium. Orange provides vitamin C and flavonoids including hesperidin, which supports circulation and immune function. Dark chocolate is a potent source of antioxidant flavonoids, magnesium and iron.
